Fitting the Sunset City shell

About 20 minutes for the controller, 1 minute for the console plates. Everything you need is in the box.

Before you start

• Turn the controller off and unplug it.
• Work on a soft cloth so the print does not scratch.
• Keep the screws in the small bag; they are all the same size.

Controller shell

1. Remove the back. Undo the four screws under the grips with the included screwdriver. Slide the spudger between the front and back shells at the bottom edge and work around. The two grip clips release with a firm pull.
2. Unplug the battery. Lift the battery out of its cradle and unplug the small white connector. Set the battery aside.
3. Lift the board. Two screws hold the board and the battery cradle. Undo them, then lift the board straight up. The L2 and R2 triggers come with it.
4. Touchpad. Peel the touchpad ribbon off the board carefully and clip the touchpad into the new front shell. Route the ribbon through the slot.
5. Buttons and D-pad. Drop the new face buttons, D-pad and Options/Create keys into the new front shell with their rubber membranes on top.
6. Board back in. Lower the board into the new front shell. Line up the light bar and the mic hole. Two screws.
7. Battery and back. Plug the battery in, seat it, snap the new back shell on. Four screws.
8. Test. Hold the PS button. Check every button, both triggers and the touchpad before you put the tools away.

Console plates

1. Power the console off and lay it flat, logo side up.
2. Lift the corner of the plate near the PS logo and slide it toward the base. It pops off.
3. Line up the new plate, press near the corner and slide it home until it clicks.
4. Turn the console over and repeat for the other side.

Something not right?

A button sticks: its membrane is off centre, open the back and reseat it. Touchpad does not click: the ribbon is not fully seated. Still stuck? Message support with a photo and we reply within a few hours.
